HSV Garden Challenge

Oh how I can't wait to see the seeds grow! We have already started some of our seeds. Mike did it with the kids over the weekend.

They also started some strawberry plants in a hanging planter

And here is where all of the bountiful harvest will be planted

We plan on making the garden area bigger this year so future posts will show just how big it ends up being.
We are using the Garden Preschool pack from Homeschool Creations. Some other things we will be using
  • Preschool Post April lesson 1- Tiny seed
  • Creation day 3 for our creation notebooks
  • Lots of books and stories about plants, seeds, how to grow and also about planting and growing faith
Also LOTS more planting to come in the garden once it it time. Can't wait to see what the summer brings.

Workboxes!

I have spent the weekend getting the kids workboxes set up and creating a planner form for them. Here are the pictures..

Luke's are the blue and red ones on the left and Sophie's and the light blue and green on the right. They each only have 6 for now. I want to use them for the things that they can work on fairly independently with just a bit of instruction to get started. My goal is to just get Lucas use to working somewhat independently on a few things and get use to the workbox system. Once we start Kindergarten this fall I will change it up a bit. I want to start out real basic with them for now and change as our needs change or find out what is or is not working.

Here I created hanging files to correspond to the #'s on the boxes and also two "extra" folders. I am not exactly sure how I will use these yet but a couple of thoughs are to use them to fill a weeks worth of boxes or to put things in that would fit better there than in the box. ? ? I don't know I suppose time will tell. Any ideas?
I put their boxes over by their little table with the idea that they will be close to them and increase their independence a bit. They usually do everything, except paint, at the big table with me. They always use their little table for that. BUT you know how the best laid plans turn out, Right!

Oh how I wish there were more hours in the day. I have some documents I was going to share but I have yet to figure out that whole process. Not to self-- add that to my never ending to do list :).

I am pretty excited to see how the kids do tomorrow with their new workboxes. An update post coming soon.

More pics for the week

042

Well let me just start off with this darling picture of Sophie. While I was at MOPS Tuesday night she decided to get into my makeup (Yikes on the lipstick color huh!) and Mike took a picture for me. He put my makeup up but he did not know that she hid it behind the livingroom chair from him. SNEAKY! So she did it again.

We have been pretty random this week and have just been kinda doing whatever…

  • Playdough letters
  • Creation notebook- Day 2
  • Nature journal- when we see a new bird at our feeders or in the yard we color a picture of it and read about it. We did a nuthatch.
  • Letter/Number puzzles
  • Short vowel Bingo (Learning Resources)
  • Read books- just a given but it came into my head
  • Lucas wanted to know today why his new gorilla did not have hair on his bottom so we got out the DK Encyclopedia of Animals and read about gorillas and baboons as well as LOTS of other animals.
  • Tangrams
  • Painting
  • Daily devotional

Just checking this out to see how it works and if it user friendly for my tech challenged self. Let me see if I can figure out how to add a couple of documents I made to here. Hmmm let’s see here. Well I am going to have to research that a bit. Okay lets see if I can just post this text. ;).

Pics

Here are a few pics of them and their work.

 Painting something random..

 Working on their creation notebooks.

I just love Luke's shamrock drawing. He made a rainbow with a BIG pot of gold at the end and to the right is St. Patrick.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

What a fun week we have had. Coloring rainbows, decorating shamrocks and learning about St. Patrick. Wednesday morning we went to visit the grandma's and grandpa's at the nursing home with our MOPS group. Luke and Sophie took them decorated shamrocks. That was their 1st time going and I though they might be uncomfortable but they weren't. I did talk with them about the older folks and kind of what they might see so they were ready I suppose but they did great and had fun. This morning we got up and had some fruit Cheerios (the colors of the rainbow) with green milk. Couldn't have a whole green meal for dinner so we had green jello with whipped cream for dessert.

We finished up with our letter M today. I have not downloaded my pics so I will have to post them later. We have been busy the last couple of weeks and I still have not got into the habit of posting yet so I have slacked bad. We have been playing number bingo with dice and chips, patterning strips, pattern blocks, tangrams, painting, puzzles (we got a new USA floor puzzle the kids really liked), dot-to-dots..... We started our creation notebook but I can't remember if I posted that yet or not. Yikes! I probably shouldn't admit that huh? If not I have some pics to post of those also. Well I am going to leave it at this and I will post some pics after I see what I need to catch up on. :)
