Weekly review May 16-20

Taking time off sure makes it harder to get back into the swing of things. We have eased back into structured learning this week. More so just learning and we play :). Monday was spent reorganizing my brain from the lack of routine. Tuesday we went to the zoo and then played at Grandma's.

Getting ready for the train ride!

This is the elephant named Sophie. Our Sophie thinks it's cool that the elephant has her same name.

Wednesday we went through A-Z and thought of animals that we seen at the zoo that started with each letter. We did them all except N. Could not come up with one. After the zoo my camera battery died so no more pics of the week until I get to the store for a new one. :(

Other things we have done this week include: LOTS of Candy Land , log cabin building with the lincoln logs, stories, flashcards (I am not a big flashcard fan but Sophie just loves them so what is a momma to do :), Dot-to-dots, oh! How could I forget our outside painting. I thinned out some tempera paint with water and then they tried blowing the pain around with straws. Sophie was just not real good at that concept. She finally grasped it but was much more into doing splatter painting. They loaded a glob onto their brushed and tapped them on their hands to get the splatting effect. Then we did butterflies using symmetry. I creased their papers and had them color half of the butterfly and then glob in some color and then folded them and rubbed them together and ta-da....

Those are our highlights of the week. Now for a couple of funnies - 1st from Lucas. I asked him this morning if he wanted to trace his sight words he is working on ( I should have known better because at the time he was "making books" for me and how dare I interrupt his work- silly boy) and he said ever so politely "No thank you Mom. I think I will do that tomorrow!".  Yesterday the kids were playing on their playset outside (swing/slide combo thing) and were playing "library". Is that when you realize you are REALLY a homeschooler or just a "nerd" HAHAHAHA!

Have a great weekend, Julie

A week off

Mike was off work this week so we took the week off and hung out with Dad. We have been very busy. We got the garden planted. Created a planting box for strawberries and planted those. Oh I can't wait to sit out on the bench and munch strawberries. We almost finished our pond/flower garden area. It looks great compared to the concrete sidwalk and weeds that was there before.
Lucas and Mike went turkey hunting and got a big Gobbler on Thursday. They were very excited. Mike took the kids fishing yesterday while I was hitting some yard sales and  the store. We have had beautiful, although hot, weather this week and were able to be outside every day. The kids are wore out but have had a GREAT week! Back to the grind on Monday. I have pics but not downloaded yet. I will add them later.
