I found some cute ordinal flash card printables free on TPT. I shrunk them down, printed and then laminated them. I sent the kids off to gather up Rudolph, Clarice, Hal & Holly Moose, and the Christmas bear.
Sophie got the cards with the numerals on them. (1st, 2nd, etc.) Lucas got the word cards. (first, second, etc.) We only used up to fifth for now. Lucas knows these just to name them but it was new for him to have to read the word cards. That made it appropriate for both of them to do together but on their own levels.
After we went over these a few times things got a little silly. We just had Polar Express day and trains were fresh in their mind. I soon became the train conductor and had numerous passengers chugging behind me.
How cute they are!

Snowflake addition and yummy patterns
I have been super slacking on blogging. I think the idea of putting a whole weeks worth of "stuff" in one post is overwhelming for me. I am going to try to just throw things in as we go and I bet I will get a whole lot more on here! :)
I printed off a Snowflake Add-Up sheet free from currclick- Itsy bitsy learners. We already had addition flash cards to use. I found some little plastic snowflakes for table decor at Walmart today and I knew just what we could use them for.
While Luke was busy working on his addition, Sophie was making patterns with M&M's and peppermint marshmallows. She then got a bit crazy on the bottom of the page writing her own patterns for me to do. They were kind of in code which she explained to me. Crazy girl!

Tale of Peter Rabbit wk of 10-24-11
With the garden cleared out and everything "going to sleep" for the year, it seemed a little odd but also hopeful (for planing time to come in the spring) to be rowing Peter Rabbit. It really would make a great study for spring but it fit into my order of country studies at this time. I am getting much better with my control/organizational/type A personality "issues" I will call them. BUT only to a point you know. :)
So where in the world is Peter causing all of his mischief? Europe- England- Mr. McGregor's garden. This was our 1st country in Europe. Done with the Asia studies now. We opted to include Russia in the continent of Asia vs. Europe only because it worked well with our schedule that way. It also made our move into Europe flow nicely.
Social Studies: Why it is important to follow rules.
Science: Healthy habits in the winter, sounds a rabbit makes
Language arts: Vocabulary, apology letter to Mr. McGregor, narration of the story, onomatopoeia
Math: Planning and planting a grid garden for Mr. McGregor
I am pretty sure that Luke's favorite part of this week was learning about onomatopoeia and saying the word. He used that word a LOT this week. So cute!!
