Curriculum choices for Kindergarten and 1st grade.
Let me start with what is on Sophie's (K) list for this year. We use workboxes so I am going to list her boxes and then what is used for each.
- Sight words- I have went through the pre-primer and primer lists and assessed the words that she does not know. I made pages that we use to work on these throughout the week. She has 30 words plus we work on color and number words every day in our calendar notebook.
- Spelling- AAS level 1 *not starting until January*
- Phonics/Reading- Explode the Code 1 and 2, OPGTR (continuing on) She will also be using Vocab Spelling City on Fridays for a spelling test from her ETC end of lesson words.
- Writing- HWOT finish up Letters and Numbers for me, and move on to My Printing Book when finished.
- Math- Miquon Orange, Prof B Math, mental math stratagies, games
- Geography- Scholastic Success with Maps Gr.1
- Spanish- Speekee TV
Lucas (1st Grade)
- Spelling- AAS level 1 and onto level 2 when finished, Vocab Spelling City spelling tests
- Reading- OPGTR (continuing on), ETC 2 and 3, Reading Kingdom
- Writing- HWOT (finish up My Printing Book), copywork
- Grammar- FLL 1, Hewitt Lightening Lit (covers many L.A. areas)
- Math- Miquon (finish Orange then Red), Math Mammoth (for extra practice as needed), Prof B math, mental math strategies, games, finish Math Made Easy: Addition
Together
- History/Geography- SOTW 1 Ancients with activity guide, History Pockets (ancients), MapTrek maps
- Science- BFSU K-2 (lesson plans on my blog for this year if anyone would like them)
- Writing- Hoping to start IEW's PAL writing soon.
- Art/Music- up in the air. We have many resources for these and will just use whatever, whenever they want.
This is our tentative plan for the year. Most of the things on here will stay in one capacity or another. As part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew there will be times when some things are put on hold while a different product is being used for review. Also I prefer mastery based learning for math and will use any and everything we have available to solidify a concept before we move on. This is one area that I think "beating a dead horse" is a good thing. Boy does that sound awful! Another area that I feel strongly about is narration and will be incorporated into many subjects throughout the year.
There are many other resources we will be using throughout the year including:

Curriculum is one area that I really like reading about. How others used it. What has worked or not worked. I was going to say that I am a curriculum junkie, but I think it would be more appropriately stated that I am a book junkie. I love reading and teaching with living books.
So that is our plan in a nutshell. We just finished the BTS Blog Hop at the Schoolhouse Review Crew last week so if you would like to check out some of those posts about curriculum the links are below.

Love History Pockets!
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that. This will be our 1st time.
DeleteWe love doing history and science together as a family, too!
ReplyDeleteMy 2 are only 11 months apart so it is working out well to do many things together. It will only get easier as they get older I hope.
